Yellowtail Blue Damsels are perfect starter fish for saltwater aquariums of 20 gallons or larger. They are hardy, colorful and inexpensive, and unlike many damselfish, they are relatively peaceful, although they may be territorial towards their own kind. The fact that many aquarists have kept these fish for close to 10 years is a testament to their hardiness. Yellowtail Damsels grow to just over 2” and are found on reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific. They like plenty of hiding places and do best on meaty foods such as brine shrimp, plankton and mysis shrimp. They can be purchased individually or in small groups if the aquarium is large enough and has adequate habitat.
